The Town of Fort Myers Beach is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Traci Kohler to the position of Deputy Town Manager. Dr. Kohler has served with distinction as the Assistant to the Town Manager and brings with her a dynamic background in leadership, strategic planning, and community engagement.
With over 30 years of experience in public service and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Florida, Dr. Kohler has been a key force in advancing recovery, planning, and operational procedures for the Town. Her background includes serving as the respected principal of Fort Myers Beach Elementary, where she was known for building strong community partnerships and leading initiatives that directly supported student and family success.
Since joining the Town’s Administrative Team, Dr. Kohler has played a pivotal role in coordinating the Town’s strategic documentation response to FEMA. Her leadership has been instrumental in facilitating intergovernmental communication, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving forward complex planning initiatives that will shape the Town’s long-term resiliency.
Dr. Kohler has also contributed significantly to the Town’s strategic planning processes, working alongside staff and leadership to refine visioning frameworks and identify operational procedures that support sustainable growth and improved public service delivery.

The Deputy Town Manager:
- Serves as a strategic partner to the Town Manager and Department Heads to ensure the alignment of operations with the Town’s strategic goals and priorities.
- Promotes collaboration across departments, community partners, and external agencies to advance Town interests and objectives.
- Oversees the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan, Capital Improvement Plan, and long-term financial strategies.
The Deputy Town Manager works closely with Department Directors to:
- Guide leadership and workforce development, succession planning, and operating procedure enhancements
- Foster a culture of innovation, transparency, equity, and excellent service for residents and those involved in doing Town business.
- Lead policy development, organizational improvement, and innovation efforts across the Town.
