TOWN REOPENS SEVEN DAYS A WEEK ACCESS
On Friday, Oct. 14, the Fort Myers Beach Town Manager was flown by helicopter from FMB to the Lee County EOC to meet with the County Manager and his staff to discuss the urgency of debris removal within the 60-day 100% FEMA funding window (which the Town has no financial stake in.)
To our surprise, at the Oct. 26th Lee County debris workshop, County representatives stated that the Monday and Tuesday access closures are a Town decision. Now
that Lee County has publicly stated that it's the Town's choice, the Town will immediately notify the Lee County Sherriff not to restrict resident or non-critical traffic, on behalf of the Town, on Mondays and Tuesdays. This will begin on Monday, Oct. 31.
Furthermore, the Town requests that law enforcement re-deploy and devote sufficient assets to prevent curfew violations and reports of looting. The curfew will remain in place from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
To prevent any loss in productivity, we have encouraged the State and County to insist on including nights and weekends for debris removal contractors and haulers.
