[ARCHIVED] FWC seeking public comment on draft guidelines for management of beach-nesting birds

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is currently seeking public comments on draft Species Conservation Measures and Permitting guidelines for four species of imperiled beach-nesting birds in Florida’s Imperiled Species Management Plan. These species are:

  • American Oystercatcher
  • Black Skimmer
  • Snowy Plover
  • Least Tern 

Fort Myers Beach residents are encouraged to attend and participate in the Imperiled Beach-Nesting Birds webinar on October 11 at noon and provide comment on the proposed guidelines.

Written comments on the guidelines will be accepted until October 17, 2021. Email comments to Imperiled@MyFWC.com.

The guidelines outline biological background, recommended survey methodology, and voluntary conservation practices designed to improve conditions for these species. The guidelines also include options for avoidance, minimization, and mitigation, along with information on the permitting process.
