Due to the well-documented uptick in COVID-19 infections across Florida and in Lee County combined with the Town’s priority in taking every precaution necessary to prevent the spread of the virus, hours for some of the Town’s cultural, parks and recreational attractions are being adjusted:
- Mound House Museum building and public restrooms will close until further notice. The grounds will remain open from sunrise to sunset. At this time, kayak tours and beach walks will continue on select days. Visit the Mound House website at www.moundhouse.org or call 239-765-0865 for the schedule and more information. Masks are required in any public area where social distancing of six feet is not possible.
- Beginning the week of July 13, the weight/cardio room at Bay Oaks Recreational Campus will be open by reservation only from 8 a.m. until Noon on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Reservations will be taken for up to four people at a time starting each hour at 8 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 11 a.m. Sessions will start on the hour and last for 45 minutes to allow for sanitizing between sessions. Reservations need to be made at least two hours in advance by calling 239-765-4222. Walk-ins will not be accepted. Masks are required in any public area where social distancing of six feet is not possible.
- The outdoor campus at Bay Oaks will remain open from sunrise to sunset, including tennis courts and pickle ball courts. The ball fields, basketball courts, gym, restrooms and community pool will remain closed. Masks are required in any public area where social distancing of six feet is not possible.
- Restroom facilities at Newton Beach Park remain open to the public.
These actions are being taken because of the potential risk in transmitting the virus with the uptick in infections across the state and county. The rate of transmission is particularly risky in inside spaces, and staff cleaning requirements outweigh the benefit for the limited number of guests using the facilities.
