As prescribed in the Town Charter, the Town Council is required to conduct periodic reviews of the Charter through the appointment of a Charter Review Commission. The 2014 Charter Review Commission held their first meeting on October 9, 2014 at 9:00 AM at Town Hall. The 5-member commission is comprised of Chairperson, Tom Babcock; Vice-Chair, Miffie Greer; and members Dan Hughes, Jay Light and Dan Parker. Regular meetings will be held on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at 9:00 AM in Council Chambers.
The CRC eagerly requests public input regarding the Town’s charter. The next meeting is scheduled for October 23, 2014 at 9:00 AM in Council chambers, at which time Articles I through V of the Charter will be reviewed:
• Article I: CORPORATE NAME; PURPOSE OF THE CHARTER
• Article II: TERRITORIAL BOUNDARIES
• Article III: GENERAL POWERS OF THE MUNICIPALITY
• Article IV: CHARTER OFFICERS
• Article V: NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS; TERMS OF OFFICE
If you have an opinion or recommendation which you would like the Commission to consider, we welcome your attendance at the public meetings, you may send an e-mail to the Town Clerk (Michelle@fortmyersbeachfl.gov – Please put Charter Review in the subject line for ease of identification), you may drop off any written comments etc. at Town Hall or you may speak directly with any members of the CRC.
