[ARCHIVED] Heard a rumor? Read our list of FACT or FICTION

FACT or FICTION

Rumors have been flying around lately about a bunch of different topics, causing unnecessary angst for residents, business owners, property owners – everyone! So we are addressing them here to set the record straight.

1. FACT: The violation fee for unpermitted work is 3x the cost of a permit.  This is a true one!  The 3x permit fee is the penalty for an after the fact permit. Learn about and apply for permits

2. FICTION: The Town is bankrupt and being taken over by Lee County.

FACT:  The Town is not bankrupt.  In fact where other jurisdictions have already taken out millions of dollars in loans for hurricane recovery, FMB has not borrowed any funds and has worked to date solely on cash flow, insurance and grants.  Lee County has been very supportive throughout our collective emergency responses. However, being taken over by Lee County is not an option, though we have appreciated the support that the County has given.

3. FICTION: Parking is available along 5th street in the downtown district between the orange cones beside Margaritaville and the Lighthouse Inn.

FACT: Where the orange cones are is a construction zone for Margaritaville and parking is not permitted. Tickets will be issued for violations, just ask the Town Manager.

4. FICTION: Resident and business parking passes from prior years are being accepted.

FACT: This is no longer true because the Town has started issuing current parking passes again. Apply for a parking pass
