Registration is open for Calusa Kids at Mound House and Newton Beach Park to be held the weeks of July 11 to 15 and July 18 to 22.

Operated by Super Science and Amazing Art from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, three camp days each week will be at Mound House and two camp days will be at Newton Beach Park.

Campers will enjoy kayaking on the Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve from the Mound House launch and swimming in the Gulf at Newton Beach Park. They will also enjoy theme-oriented organized camp activities, outside games, and nature, history and museum exploration. Each camp week has room for a minimum of six and a maximum of 15 participants.

Campers will also discover new plants and animals, use a  state-of-the-art research lab, immerse themselves in local Calusa history and travel the Great Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail. Featuring a curriculum written and designed by local marine biologists, campers will collect water samples, observe wildlife, and explore the habitats of fish and wildlife on kayaking adventures.

Cost is $200 per camper per week

Early drop off and late pickup may be possible based on instructor availability. Campers will need to bring snacks, lunches and water bottles each day in addition to towels and changes of clothes.

Environmental education pop-up booth hosted by the Marine Resources Task Force

Representatives from the Town's Marine Resources Task Force (MRTF) are hosting a pop-up educational booth at various locations around Town throughout the month.

Election qualifying period for potential Town Council candidates

Candidates who wish to be on the November 2022 ballot must open a campaign file with the Fort Myers Beach Town Clerk and do not have to wait until the official qualifying period to do this. 

Official qualifying is from noon on Monday, June 13, until noon on Friday, June 17, 2022.  

The deadline for qualifying by petition to the Lee County Supervisor of Elections is May 16, 2022, at noon.

All requirements are posted on the Town Clerk’s Municipal Elections page on the Town's website. 

Potential candidates can also make an appointment with the Town Clerk. 

May 2 Town Council Meeting

• After much discussion and public input, Town Councilors decided to revisit the tinting requirement of 15 percent on windows in buildings on the beach. Some tinting is required because lights can cause sea turtle nesting disorientations. Discussion also emphasized the need for increased education and enforcement to ensure compliance by property owners.
• Town Councilors discussed establishing a new advisory board to consolidate the functions of the current boards for Bay Oaks Recreational Campus (BORCAB), Mound House (CELCAB) and community resources (CRAB). A first public hearing was held on Ordinance 22-10 “Restructuring Advisory Committees”. This ordinance will be scheduled for a second reading and possible adoption at the June 6 Town Council meeting. The ordinance includes renaming the Marine Resources Task Force (MRTF) to include environmental issues in the title.

Community members interested in serving as volunteers to advise and support the work of Town government are encouraged to apply for current openings on four of the Town’s ten advisory boards and committees.

The Town’s boards and committees exist to advise Town Council about Bay Oaks Recreational Campus, the Matanzas Pass Mooring Field, Mound House, Newton Beach Park, finances, island preservation and history, marine resources, anchorage, nuisance abatement, and public safety.

Town Councilors are seeking the public's ideas to name the beach access by the Margaritaville resort that is currently under construction. The access has been known as Canal Street.
