Cultural Resources
Mission Statement
The mission of the Cultural Resources Department is to enrich the quality of life of residents and visitors to Fort Myers Beach through preservation of environmental and historical resources that ensure a sense of place for present and future generations of islanders. We strive to increase public awareness of Florida's heritage by offering unique opportunities for individuals to engage in active research, high quality educational programs, and recreation.
Don’t miss this unique archaeological and historical site off Estero Bay on Fort Myers Beach. The new museum opened in November 2015 and is located inside the newly restored 1921 William H. Case house. This Arts and Crafts style building is the oldest standing structure on Fort Myers Beach and sits on top of a 2,000-year-old Calusa Indian Shell Mound. Immerse yourself in the natural environment of Estero Bay with guided kayak tours, watch for marine life on the observation
pier or enjoy one of our programs. For more information, visit www.moundhouse.org.
